ACT Athletics provides competitions for all ages in running, jumping, walking and throwing events in Canberra/Queanbeyan and surrounding regions (Cooma, Bega, Goulburn). Competition and coaching available for the disabled.

ACT Cricket Association

ACT Cricket is the cricketing body in the ACT that provides cricket for juniors and seniors as well a broader range of cricket for more recreational players. ACT Cricket also look after and run the annual Prime Minister's XI game that is played at Manuka Oval against the touring international team at the time. The organisation also runs such initiatives as the Kookaburra Cup (a Twenty20 tournament for children) the Hume Consulting Group Workplace Challenge (a smaller scale game for workers) and clinics for indigenous and disabled children.

Pegasus Riding for the Disabled ACT

Pegasus is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides equestrian activities for people with a disability.  Our lessons are structured on ability, with riders with a disability riding with able bodied riders wherever possible.  We have three nationally accredited staff coaches and a number of accredited volunteer coaches.  Individualised programs are developed for each rider.  Lessons run during the school term and we also offer school holiday programs of 1 - 3 hours duration.  For more information about our programs please contact Pegasus or visit our website at www.pegasusact.com.au

Swimming ACT

Swimming ACT runs a learn to swim program for children & adults with disabilities. The program operates from both the Canberra Olympic Pool & the Canberra International Sports & Aquatic Centre (CISAC) at Belconnen. We are also in negotiations with Turner Primary school to use their pool after school. Program Co-ordinator-Margaret Roberts (62584520). The program runs on a term basis, the cost is: - $135 per term (with a Dr's certificate) or - $148.50 per term (without Dr's certificate).

YMCA Gym Skills

Gym Skills, is a gross motor program for children with low muscle tone. The program is designed for children to work at their own pace in a safe structured environment. The class runs for 45 mins which includes songs, stretching and the use of the gym equipment including climbing frames, trampoline soft equipment, tunnels etc. Subject to availability.

Disability Sport Recreation Program (DSEP) - ACTSPORT

The DSEP is the state government program, housed at ACTSPORT, which coordinates the sport and recreational activities of people with a disability in the ACT. The DSEP aims to provide:

  • Information on sport and recreation opportunities for people with a disability in the ACT
  • Support to ACT sporting associations to create inclusive facilities and appropriate programs for people with a disability
  • Registration of athletes for national and international competitions
  • Resource centre for Disability Sport (Including Educational Material and Modified Sporting Equipment)
  • Education to coaches, teachers, school students and community leaders through the Disability Education Program.
  • Assistance with sourcing funding avenues and grant opportunities for disability sport

My Time Playgroup for Children with Disabilities or Chronic Illness

ACT Playgroups is facilitating a playgroup for children with Disabilities or Chronic Illness and their siblings in the ACT aged 0-6years

About My Time

My Time groups provide local support for cares of a young child under school age with a disability or chronic health condition.

My Time gives parents the chance to socialise and share ideas with others who understand the rewards and intensity of the caring role. Parents meet with people in similar circumstances who can understand their children's achievements and help with the challenges, to have fun, and find out about available community support.

Children will have opportunities for both free and structured play activities including music, gross and fine motor play activities, sensory play and stories.

The group will be supported by two early childhood trained facilitations from ACT Playgroups.

Day and Time: Thursday 12:00pm - 2:00pm

Special Olympics ACT Region provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with an intellectual disability.
